Saturday School at Elwin

There are 2 reasons Elwin has Saturday School. The first reason is attendance the second reason is Accelerated Reading (AR). These Saturdays are by invitation only. Below you will find a description of both.

Saturday School for Attendance:

As you are aware, it is the district’s goal to have students attend class every school day.  We understand that sometimes students do not feel well or there may be some family emergency that causes our students to be absent.  Elwin Elementary is offering a program that will allow your student to make up 1 absence. Our program is offered on one Saturday a month, from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.  This program is not mandatory nor is it a punishment.  This program is designed to provide students the opportunity to make up an absence by coming to school and participating in different fun and educational activities.  Students will be allowed to bring a snack for morning break, and your student will be provided with a school lunch.

Saturday School for AR:

This year for our Accelerated Reader program we are requiring students in 4th-6th grade who have not completed 50% of their points and have not achieved an 80% comprehension score on quizzes taken to attend an AR Saturday Reading Session. This is an opportunity for students to catch up before the end of the trimester and grading period.  Students must bring AR books as they will spend time reading and taking AR tests during this time.  Remember, you are able to monitor AR progress through the Home Connect feature accessible through our website.  We appreciate your cooperation in partnering with us for the success of your child. The session is from 8:00-12:00 and students will need to provide their own snack.
